Welcome to Gerupuk — and to the family
Our home
Tucked into the southern coast of Lombok, Gerupuk is a small fishing village that happens to sit on one of the best surf bays in Indonesia. Gerupuk Bay is home to around six distinct surf breaks — Inside Gerupuk, Outside Gerupuk, Don Don, and more — each suited to different levels and conditions. There's almost always something rideable, whatever the season.
The dry season (May to October) brings bigger, more consistent swells for intermediate and advanced surfers. The wet season (November to April) offers smaller, cleaner waves — our personal favourite for beginners and those working on technique. Glassy mornings, uncrowded lineups, and warm water year-round.
Gerupuk hasn't been overrun. It's still a working village with locals who love the ocean. When you surf here, you're a guest — and our team will always help you navigate the bay with respect.
Our story
Semeton was built around a simple idea: that the best surfing happens when you feel like you belong.
We watched a lot of travellers arrive in Lombok, take a few lessons with whoever was available, and leave having barely scratched the surface of what surfing here can offer. Not because they lacked ability — but because they didn't have the coaching, the community, or the local knowledge to get the most out of it.
Semeton is our answer to that. A small, locally-run surf school and surf camp in Gerupuk where quality coaching, genuine connection and good vibes are the whole point.
Semeton means "family" in Sasak — the language of Lombok's indigenous people. It's not just a name. It's a promise.
Meet Saban — Founder, Head Coach
Semeton is Saban's creation. He grew up in Gerupuk — this bay is his backyard, these waves are the ones he learned to surf on — and after years of coaching at LMBK Surf House, one of Lombok's most popular surf camps, he came home to build something of his own.
That's Semeton. A surf school and surf house rooted in the place he grew up, run the way he believes surfing should be taught: small groups, real feedback, genuine care for every guest's progress.
ISA-certified and with years of coaching experience, Saban has a rare ability to watch a surfer for a few seconds and immediately identify what's holding them back. His guests consistently say they progressed faster than they ever expected — and that they had a great time doing it.
Send it! We'll see you in the water. 🤙"
A few things we care about
Lombok is a majority Muslim island. Around the village, we ask guests to wear a cover-up after surfing. A rash guard in the water is a good idea too — both for modesty and for sun protection.
Support local
Gerupuk's community depends on tourism. Whether you book with us or another local operator, hiring a local surf guide matters — for safety, for wave knowledge, and for the livelihoods of the people who call this place home.
Respect the culture
The lineups in Gerupuk can get busy during peak season. Be patient, take your turn, and share the joy. If a beginner drops in on your wave, laugh it off — there's always another set coming.
